Copyright,
how to protect your work
Your
work can only be original if it is the result of independent
creative effort. It is not original if it has been
copied from something that already exists.
Copyright protection is automatic as soon as there
is a record in any form of what has been created,
you do not have to register your work in fact there
is no official registration in the UK.
As the creator of a work you can provide evidence
that you made the article at a particular time. A
copy of the work can be deposited with a bank or solicitor.
Or you can send yourself a copy by recorded delivery
post, this gives a clear date stamp on the envelope,
make sure to leave the envelope unopened and in a
safe place
Note, this does not prove that the work is original
or created by you, but it is useful to show that the
particular work was in your possession at a particular
date, i.e. if someone claims that you have copied
something of theirs that was created at a later date
to your product.
Also make sure to use the international copyright
symbol © followed by your name and year of production,
although not essential in the UK, it may assist you
in infringement proceedings, and will be needed in
certain countries.

Using
Rubber stamps
Most rubber stamp manufacturers have what is called
an angel policy, meaning the you can use the stamped
images on cards that you sell, but there are restrictions,
the main ones being (A) the amount of times you can
make and sell a card with a particular image, and
(B) that all stamp impressions must be made by hand,
no mechanical methods can be used.
If you are selling cards with stamped images it's
always best to contact the manufacturer and get permission
along with the terms for each particular stamp range,
just to make matters more complicated terms can differ
between stamp ranges from the same manufacturer!
