Make your own Metal Embellishments

Lately wire work and metal embellishments have become very popular, unfortunately availability of made up embellishments is very poor due to the huge demand and poor supply, not only is that frustrating but of course your card making colleagues will all have the same designs!

So to combat these problems why not make your own metal embellishments using punched shapes, jewelry wire and, if you own a Sizzix machine, Sizzix shapes.

It's rewarding and great fun, and once you've made a design, it will be unique and exclusive to you, and the best bit of all? you'll never be out of stock, here's some ideas and cutting templates to get you started.

What you'll need:

Pewter or copper sheet and wire
Embossing tool
Thick card or a mouse mat
Craft Punches
Teddy, Pram, Heart, Balloon
Jewelry wire
Double sided adhesive pads
Clear diamontes
Printed Art papers
Long tall card blanks

We've also used some Sizzix shapes

Creating shapes is easy, pewter and copper cut or punch easily, here we've used a Balloon punch.

Punch out the balloon shape using pewter then emboss dots onto it, lay the shape on some thick card,or a mouse mat then with the embossing tool gently create the decoration.

We then cut the body using the Bitty Body die from the Sizzix range, again in pewter and then embossed the eyes and mouth

Before mounting your body onto card take a strip of printed paper in this case we have used " Happy Birthday " paper and completely covered half of the card blank giving a completely unique look.

The body was then mounted onto our card blank, half the body on the printed paper and half the body on the card blank.

Take the balloon and fix a small piece of jewelry wire to the back of the balloon using a double sided adhesive pad, then stick the balloon to the card measuring up so that the wire strand rests in the boys hand. (You may fix this with glue if you prefer)

Lastly add some clothes to our small boy using Sizzix bitty overalls and cap.

A great card for a male of any age.

This design incorporates using punched out shapes.

Punch a small teddy/ a medium size pram and a small heart in pewter ( If you intend doing a lot of punching in pewter and copper a punch aid will be of great assistance)

Using the embossing tool we added some detail to the pram.

Using " NEW BABY " printed paper we covered 60 per cent of front panel of the card blank giving a unique look.

Take each punched out shape and turn it over so the back is facing upwards.

Take a selected length of jewelry wire and attach it to your punched out shapes using tiny pieces of double sided adhesive pads.

Once you have it secure you can then use the unused side of the pad to secure the embellishment to your pink mount

Then attached the pink mount to your prepared card blank, finishing off with two clear rhinestones as your token glitter attach with fast tack and Viola
