stamping copyright issues
Most
rubber stamp manufacturers have what is called an angel
policy, meaning the you can use the stamped images on cards
that you sell, but there are restrictions, the main ones
being (A) the amount of times you can make and sell a card
with a particular image, and (B) that all stamp impressions
must be made by hand, no mechanical methods can be used..
Every
company differs slightly, below are the terms of some of
the bigger stamp producers:
PSX
stamps
Written Permission from PSX is required, this will allow
you to make up to 100 items per year featuring PSX designs,
more that 100 will require some kind of licensing deal.
Hero
Arts
Limited to projects that are limited in scope, local in
nature, and otherwise do not constitute an ongoing business.
Additionally, quantities for commercial use are generally
allowed if they are in the range of 50 hand stamped impressions
per stamp image.
A letter or email acknowledging the terms must be sent to
Hero arts.
Personal
Impressions, Inca & Funstamps
Written permission required, no known limitations as regards
numbers.
If you
are selling cards with stamped images it's always best to
contact the manufacturer and get permission along with the
terms for each particular stamp range, just to make matters
more complicated terms can differ between stamp ranges from
the same manufacturer!
