To make this wedding invitation you will need the following products

Use an ivory Pocketfold Wedding Invitation and ivory pocketfold postcard -code WP9

Overlay the WP9 with a Glitter Paper WP140 on top of this use an ivory round corner overlay – code R3S0

For the front of the card between the letters ‘Wedding’ use aquamarine Swarovski crystals

Finnish with blue velvet ribbon and a diamante buckle square slider

The approximate cost of this wedding invitation is £2.95

Mount a length of yellow organza 15 mm ribbon on the right side of the card using 6mm double sided tape

You can now stick a mint green 6mm ribbon satin ribbon in the middle of the yellow ribbon.

Next you will need two daisy craft punches, One 25mm daisy punch and one 15mm daisy punch

Using A4 yellow glitter card, first punch out three small daisies (15mm), then using light green glitter card punch out two large daisies(25mm)

Apply a wet glue such as Stix 2 PVA to the back of the daisies and position them in place on the card.

Then use self adhesive light green 5 mm diamantes and decorate as desired.

To complete your wedding invitation you also need a white 6 x 6 envelope and a smooth white card insert to print your invitation words on to.

Step 1 – Add the Organza Ribbon

Use kooky kards 6mm double sided tape

Stick the double sided tape on to the front of the pocketfold just above the wording, make sure that you cut the tape a little longer than the card.

Then cut a length of organza ribbon again longer than needed apply this ribbon to the double sided tape,

Ensure that you pull the ribbon tight to ensure it sticks flat and does not rouche up.

If this does happen it is easy enough to un-peel the ribbon and re-stick in the position you want.

When you are happy with the ribbon position, smooth the ribbon with your fingertips to ensure it is well stuck.

Now trim the ends of the ribbon and the double sided tape with sharp scissors.

Step 2 -Add the 6mm Ribbon

Using Kooky Kards 3.5 mm double tape stick a length centrally over the organza ribbon

Take 6mm ivory ribbon and cut a length slightly longer than needed and position onto the double sided tape

Trim both ends of the ribbon as in step one.

Step 3 – Adding the Heart

Use Kooky Kards PVA glue to apply diamante heart

Take a diamante heart, I’ve used a gold backed one for this project and apply the the glue to the back using a cotton bud, place the heart centrally onto the ribbon.

Step 4 – Sticking the Swarovski Crystals

Use Kooky Kards Glue Pen - This product is ideal for small or fiddly gluing projects.

Apply a small amount of glue in between each letter of the word ‘Wedding’, carefully place a Swarovski crystal on each dot of glue using tweezers, leave to set.

Your pocketfold is now complete!

Inside the Pocket Fold

Use WP9 Ivory Limed as the main backing postcard, over this stick a glitter white WP140 then finally a Pearl white Paper Overlay

Use 6mm double sided tape to mount the WP140 and overlay onto the postcard, finally use Velcro Dots on the front flap of the pocketfold so that it can be opened and closed

Budget wedding invitations is one area where we can help, If you want simple, elegant inexpensive wedding invitations then how about going back to basics, in the past it was always customary for invitations to take the form of a postcard, so in this blog post I’m going to provide some ideas on how you can make some cheap wedding invites.

I’m going to use a white 6 inch square postcard Code WP9, a smaller chocolate brown postcard Code WP130 and a printable overlay, I use the overlay because many home printers just don’t seen up to the job of printing directly onto a postcard. At the bottom of this post you’ll find a download link for the overlay template which you can edit and change to suit your wedding invitation.

This is a very simple wedding invitation and takes no time at all to make, simply stick the chocolate brown postcard onto the white one, you’re already half way finished!

Now the difficult bit, printing your wedding invitation, this I find, is where most people have a problem and it tends to put them off going the DIY wedding invitation route, but wait! Don’t give it I’m about to show you how easy it is and I’ll provide you with the wedding invitation wording.

First, click here to download the overlay template, (Microsoft Word file) As most PC’s now come with Microsoft Word that’s the format I’ve used, start Word and load the template, edit it to your requirements, now you can print, however this is where most people have a problem as you’ll need to set a custom paper size, this is very simple to do but does vary from printer to printer. First,  select to print your wedding invitation as you would normally.

The print dialog box will appear similar to the one below, find the Properties Button and click on it, the properties box will then open.

In the properties box click on the Paper Tab where you’ll be able to set a custom paper size of 114 x 114 mm or 11.4 CM square.

Once you’ve set the custom paper size close the dialog box and continue the print procedure as you normally would.  You’re now ready to print your budget wedding invitations, all you then have to do is stick the printed part to the postcards and you’re all done!

After you’ve installed and started AbiWord click the file menu and from the menu select Page setup as below

Change the paper width to 150 mm and leave the other unchanged, then check the Landscape radio button as in the image below, then click OK and close the dialog box.

Next click on Insert from the top menu and select Text Box, move your mouse pointer to the work area click the left mouse button and drag until you create a box half the size of the sheet as below.

You can now insert your wedding invitation text into the text box. To remove the border from the box place the mouse pointer on the border of the box, right click and select text box, you can then edit the box properties.

To move the box simply click on the box border and hold the mouse button down to move the box around until you have it in the correct position.

1. Details of the wedding reception.

Include wedding reception details in your invitation. Letting your guests know the time and place, as well as giving them a small sketch of how to get there will be extremely helpful.

2. Invitation cards.

For very formal wedding ceremonies, it would be nice if you send separate invitation cards for the ceremony itself and for the reception. However, this is not a requirement especially if you and your partner have a limited budget.

3. Names of the guests.

Personally check the names of the guests as they are written on the invitations and make sure that they are all written correctly. Spelling and typographical errors are an absolute no-no when it comes to wedding invitations, and any other invitation for that matter.

4. Addressing your guests.

For informal weddings, you can address your guests by their first names or nicknames, together with the family name. For more formal ceremonies, it is recommended to use the complete name of the guest, together with the appropriate title.

5. Sending out the invitations.

Mail your wedding invitations at least a month before the date of the wedding. If the postal service is slow in your area, you should do this even earlier. This will give your guests enough time to clear their schedule, plan what they are going to wear, and shop for a wedding gift. Better yet, have your invitations hand-delivered. This will not only ensure that the envelope reaches the recipient but it will also give a more formal aura to your ceremony.

6. Inviting family members.

As much as possible, try to send the equal number of invitations to the families of the groom and the bride. There’s no sense in making people feel like they were forgotten. If you have a limited budget, it would be better to send out invitations only to immediate family and your closest friends. Your other friends will surely understand.

7. Dress code.

Make sure that you indicate the dress code in the wedding invitation. This doesn’t guarantee that your guests will follow the dress code but you should still let them know what you want them to wear.

8. RSVP.

These days, very few people RSVP to wedding invitations. To show that you really need their confirmation, include a small reply envelope in your invitation. You can also put several contact numbers and an email address so they won’t have the excuse of not being able to contact the number that you gave them.

9. Writing style.

Finally, a wedding invitation should always be constructed in a formal manner, even if you are planning to have an informal ceremony. Formal writing denotes the solemnity of the event as well as the respect that you have for all your guests. Unless you are having an extremely unorthodox wedding, it is very important to use formal wording in a wedding invitation, along with a formal style of writing.

First. Your first decision should be what colour card blank to use, using white or ivory is a good choice and provides a clean canvas to show off your design, whenever possible use a card with ‘Wedding Invitation’ printed on it. Don’t be tempted to make your own card blanks, if you do, stick to standard size formats such as A5 or A6 etc. otherwise you’ll get problems finding envelopes to fit, and more problems printing your inserts.

Second. Choose a colour theme that will be used in the design of your invitations, at this point most brides will opt for their bridesmaid dress colour, others will choose a currently fashionable colour. Choose embellishments such as ribbon, die cut shapes, etc. with your theme colours in mind.

Lastly. When selecting appropriate embellishments for your wedding invitations, keep in mind that weddings are a traditional social gathering and some convention in your design is expected, popular embellishments are entwined rings, entwined hearts, bride and groom, flowers, or ribbons and bows.

So with this post I thought I’d try and nail a couple of the problems that face most brides when making their own wedding invitations.

Card type and colour choice, I’m sure you’ve already seen more card shapes and designs than you could shake a stick at, new designs seem to be everywhere, however, faddy designs come and go, what’s hot this year may well be old hat next, don’t be persuaded to go for a card because it’s this years colour, unless of course you are getting married within the next few months or it matches your colour theme.

A safe bet for your card blank is to stick with a traditional colour such as cream, ivory or white, think of your card as a canvas on which you will create the design for your wedding invitation based around your wedding colour theme.

Card blank shape and size, you’re going to make life so much easier for yourself if you choose a standard size, a standard size card would be A5, A6, DL or square, this is going to make setting up your print templates easy when printing the inserts, note that cards such as envelopments, wallets, pyramid or other angular shaped cards will not go through a printer, however you should be fine printing the postcard inserts.
